Chloe Stephenson:
Canterbury
Deer's Head

Chloe is one of Tait Gallery's youngest artists. She is a self-taught portrait artist based in North Canterbury, currently focusing on oil painting. Since moving from the UK at 3 years old she has always had a passion for art. Chloe first became serious about art at the age of 11 when she was inspired by a NZ coloured pencil artist. Whilst having many childhood hobbies, she did not get bored of art once. Entering her first drawing in a local exhibition when she was 12 years old. With high ambitions, she continued to work with coloured pencils for 3 more years until finally daring to step out of her comfort zone.

Her oil paintings, including her first called "Resilience" each show a character and story. Although something different to every viewer. She personally decided the back story after she has finished the painting and just lets herself go in the process of creating. Mood is very important to how she likes her painting to turn out, which is why she does not try to give them a rock solid story. Chloe likes her paintings to not only be personal to herself but also to the people who view them.
